Imagine a knock on the door. You are told you have fifteen minutes to gather your belongings and get out. Then, as you and your children watch, bulldozers go to work demolishing your home.

The demolition of a house is the demolition of a family. The loss is traumatic and devastating, robbing families of their dignity, their dreams and their futures.

Now, an international non-violent movement is challenging the Israeli government’s 40-year policy of demolishing Palestinian homes in the Occupied Territories. We hope you will join us.

18,000 PALESTINIAN HOMES REDUCED TO RUBBLE FOR THE CRIME OF BEING . . . PALESTINIAN.
Why have these houses been destroyed? It is a systematic policy to force Palestinians off their own land in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. The purpose is to:

Make room for expanding Israeli settlements;
Construct a 26-foot high “separation barrier” that cuts deep into Palestinian territory;
Create a network of Israeli-only bypass roads;
And generally to “thin” Jerusalem of its Palestinian inhabitants.

Ninety-five percent of these house demolitions have absolutely nothing to do with terrorism or security.

A BLATANT VIOLATION OF INTERNATIONAL LAW
This destruction of homes and displacement of innocent Palestinian families directly violates international human rights standards and treaties, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Fourth Geneva Convention and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

BUILD HOUSES, BUILD PEACE.
What can we do? ICAHD-USA (The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions–USA) is proud to announce our Constructing Peace Campaign. With your help, we plan to rebuild every Palestinian house demolished in this 40th year of the Israeli Occupation.

If there is to be any hope for peace in the region, this violation of human rights and human dignity must stop. Construction, not destruction, is one meaningful step towards peace for both Israelis and Palestinians. It benefits us all.

WHAT WE CAN DO TOGETHER
Together, we will show non-violent opposition to the injustice of the Occupation. We will take concrete action to restore basic human rights and dignity. We will build bridges of peace and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians. And we will prove that the U.S. public wants a just peace in Israel/Palestine.

Over the last 40 years 18,000 Palestinian houses have been destroyed as part of an Israeli government policy to force Palestinians off their own land in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. At this pace, three hundred more houses will be demolished this year.

Why does the Israeli government do this? To make room for expanding Israeli settlements, to construct a 26-foot high “separation barrier” cutting deep into Palestinian territory, to create a network of Israeli-only bypass roads and generally to “thin” Jerusalem of its Palestinian inhabitants.

Ninety-five percent of these house demolitions have absolutely nothing to do with preventing acts of violence. What they do is fuel the rage and despair of the families in their path.
